Questions, answered
Ask us anything; these came up first
The real questions patients ask, with the same answers you would get at the front desk. Nothing here requires a phone call to decode.
Visits & booking
No, and that is rather the point. Book online any time; pick a service, a provider if you have a preference, and the times that work for you. A human confirms within one business hour (usually faster), and you get a text and an email. The phone still works: (816) 555-0142. We just refuse to make it the only door.
Routine visits are typically available within 3 to 5 business days. Toothaches and broken teeth are triaged same-day: call or use the urgent option in online booking and we will find you a chair, usually before lunch if you reach us in the morning.
Plan for about 70 minutes. Your intake form is done on your phone before you arrive, so the visit starts in the chair, not on a clipboard. You will get a full exam, digital X-rays, photos you can see on the ceiling screen, a cleaning unless your gums need a different plan, and a written summary before you leave. No surprise upsells at checkout.
Enthusiastically. Dr. Bell sees children from the first tooth or first birthday, whichever comes first, and under-3 first visits are always free. Siblings can be scheduled back-to-back so one trip covers the whole crew.
Money & insurance
We are in-network with Delta Dental, Cigna, MetLife, Guardian, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City, UnitedHealthcare, and Aetna, and we file claims for most other PPO plans. Add your plan to the intake form and we verify benefits before your visit, so estimates use your real numbers, not averages.
The Clerestory Plan covers it: $29/month per adult ($19 per child) includes two cleanings, exams, X-rays, and 15% off everything else. No deductibles, no waiting periods, no claim forms. A new patient exam, X-rays, and cleaning without any plan is a flat $149.
Always. Every treatment plan leaves the building as a written, line-item estimate with your insurance math applied. If a fee would change mid-treatment, we stop and talk first. "No estimate, no drill" is house policy, not a slogan.
Comfort & anxiety
You are most of our favorite patients. Tell us in the booking notes or intake form. Anxious patients get longer first appointments, a signal-anytime hand-raise rule we actually honor, noise-canceling headphones, and a no-lecture guarantee: whatever shape your teeth are in, you will not be scolded. Nitrous oxide is available for any visit.
Mostly, no. We use strong topical gel first, warm the anesthetic, and inject slowly, which is the part most offices skip. Most patients rate it a 1 or 2 out of 10. If you have had bad experiences, say so and we will go even slower.
Treatment
Usually, yes. We scan the tooth (no impression goop), design the crown on screen, and mill it from a ceramic block in the studio while you watch bad daytime TV or take a work call in the lounge. About two hours chair-to-door, one numbing, no temporary crown to babysit for two weeks.
Same idea, different supervision. Your case is planned and monitored by Dr. Novak with in-person checkpoints every six weeks, which is exactly the part the mail-order version deletes. If your case is simple enough that a kit would genuinely do, we will tell you that too.
Call (816) 555-0142 and choose the urgent option; the line is monitored evenings and Sundays. Knocked-out tooth: handle it by the crown, not the root, tuck it in milk or inside your cheek, and call while you drive. Minutes matter for reimplantation.
